Arizona Republicans have introduced a novel twist in the ongoing quest to to create as many roadblocks as possible designed to prevent women from exercising any degree autonomy over their bodies. This new proposal would require women seeking birth control to essentially bring a note to their employer proving that she is not using the pill to avoid getting pregnant. The author, Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, had this to say about her bill:
I believe we live in America. We don’t live in the Soviet Union…So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs… My whole legislation is about our First Amendment rights and freedom of religion.
Someone clearly needs to brush up on her history.
