A London investment banker and her stay at home husband are caught up in an intense divorce battle over which country their divorce should be heard in. The marital assets are said to be worth around $18 million. The husband, a former banker himself, maintains he gave up work to help raise their children and is therefore entitled to a share of the marital assets, which includes properties in London, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Last year a High Court judge in London ruled that the husband was entitled to bring his divorce suit in the English courts as he was habitually resident in England. The wife however has appealed the earlier High Court decision, arguing that the appropriate jurisdiction is Malaysia, where she has also filed a divorce suit. The Court of Appeal is due to hand down judgment later this month.
